In the 18th report of António Guterres on the implementation of Resolution 2231

Antonio Guterres' 18th report on the implementation of Resolution 2231 emphasizes the escalation of regional tensions over the JCPOA and the need to find a diplomatic solution to the Iranian nuclear issue.

Rosemary Di Carlo, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs, read out Antonio Guterres' 18th report on the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2231 and the JCPOA.

The two-page report states: "Since my last report, regional developments surrounding the JCPOA have worsened, underscoring the vital need for a peaceful solution to the Iranian nuclear issue. The United States has neither returned to the plan nor lifted or suspended the unilateral sanctions imposed after withdrawing from the JCPOA on May 8, 2018.

The United States has also not renewed waivers related to the Islamic Republic of Iran's oil trade. Since May 2019, Iran has not reversed any of the steps it has taken in contravention of its nuclear-related commitments since May 2019. As we enter the last year of the implementation of resolution 2231 (2015), the members of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA)
