In her first television interview after her release, Italian journalist Cecilia Sala confirmed that her boyfriend's contact with Elon Musk's representative in Italy, Andrea Stroppa, may have played a significant role in his release.

According to Sala, her boyfriend, Daniele Raneri, contacted Stroopa after hearing reports that Musk had met with Iran's ambassador to the United Nations, and Musk was aware of the case.

After Chechilia's release, Musk tweeted that he had played a "small role" in the affair and merely recommended supporting the US government's efforts.

Sala believed that if Donald Trump had re-entered the White House and taken an aggressive stance against Iran, his situation would have become more complicated.
