The United States wants Iran to completely abandon uranium enrichment if it wants a new nuclear deal.

Steve Witkoff: "We can't even allow 1 percent of the enrichment capability. Enrichment allows for the creation of weapons."

Iran's response was prompt and decisive. Abbas Araghchi described this request as 'unrealistic' and added: 'Enrichment in Iran is something that cannot be stopped.'

This disagreement shows how far apart the two sides are. In 2015, Iran agreed to strict limitations on enrichment under an agreement that Trump later withdrew from, re-imposing U.S. sanctions. Now, Trump is asking for a tougher - and quicker - deal. Trump: 'They have an offer. More importantly, they know they need to act quickly, otherwise something bad will happen.'

Iran insists that it has not seen any proposals from the United States. Negotiations may resume in Europe this week, but trust is in short supply.
