Mahmoud Ahmadi Beyghash, a former member of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, was acquitted of defamation charges by the Prosecutors of Branch One of the Appeals Court of Tehran Province, but was sentenced to three fines (one of which is enforceable) on the charge of spreading lies.

The other defendants, the members of parliament at the time, have been suspended from prosecution for their charges.

It remains to be seen whether the convict will ask the Supreme Court for a retrial, or whether the plaintiff will consent or whether the sentence will be executed.
