Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – April 25, 1982

After exercise, breakfast and some reading, I went to the assembly. We had a public meeting and before the order, I spoke about the proposal of Iran and Syria regarding the expulsion of Israel from the United Nations, and I introduced it as an important and revolutionary action, and I condemned the threat of the United States that if Israel is expelled, the [United Nations] Organization will disintegrate, and I expressed my hope for the creation of a fairer organization without the right of veto.  

Changes were made in the constitution of the IRGC, which caused the relative satisfaction of the soldiers.

In the afternoon, Mr. [Hossein] Ansari [Rad], the representative of Neishabur, came and complained about the pressures that the forces of the Imam's line put on them because of their previous relations with Bani Sadr - and among other things, they took the agricultural complex that was under his nobles.

Mr. [Mohammed Javad] Hojjati Kermani came and while expressing his sadness about the past, he had some suggestions.

In the afternoon, the Prime Minister of North Korea and his entourage came and we talked about the development of relations. He has come to Iran at the head of a 60-member political, military and economic delegation to buy oil in exchange for goods and services.

I participated in the meeting of the central council of the [Islamic Republic] party in Mr. Khamenei's office. The discussion was about elections and making the party more active. A meeting of heads of state was held with the presence of [Engineer Gonabadi] Minister of Housing to explain the housing policy. He said, we lack two million houses, and with the current facilities, we can build about 300,000 houses annually. It was suggested to give land to the people in the cities and to encourage construction, and to do it in a limited way in the big cities. Settlement was also proposed.

Then there was a discussion with Dr. Velayati about their travel plan to India and the quality of dealing with Ayatollah Shariatmadari. We had dinner there and at twelve o'clock I went to the assembly.
