Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – August 24, 1982

After the morning prayer, I began studying the reports. We had a public session. Before the agenda, I spoke about the Imam's directive to repeal laws contrary to Islam and asked the representatives to cooperate in solving the problem. During the recess, I spoke to the Islamic Associations of university students and teacher-training interns about the need for greater work and self-sacrifice in the struggle against the enemies of the Revolution. The Minister of Health spoke for an hour about the situation in his ministry. At noon, the Friday prayer leader of Kharameh came to explain the disagreements he had with the representative there, Mr. [Mohammad Amin] Sazegarnejad.

In the afternoon, a group of sisters and brothers from the educational staff of the Islamic Republic Party came. I spoke to them about the goals and nature of the Islamic Republic Party and how it differs from ordinary political parties.

Then Mr. [Alireza] Afshar, who had moved from Jihad to the Revolutionary Guard, came. Mr. Ahmad Jalali came and sought to gain trust and obtain political work and serve the Revolution. He is worried that doubts may arise because he had a room in Qotbzadeh's house for storing his household belongings. Dr. Mahmoud Kashani, the Iranian arbitrator for the implementation of the Algiers Declaration in The Hague, came and spoke about the problems in his work, including his disagreement with Mr. Mohammadi, the head of that office. Mr. [Mahmoud] Karimi, the head of the Foundation of the Oppressed, came and spoke about the foundation's situation. I spoke by telephone with Mr. Rabbani Amlashi about the death certificate of the late [Hassan] Lahouti. After the evening prayer, Messrs. [Asadollah] Bayat and [Seyed Hassan] Shahcheraghi came and gave a report on their trip to Bahrain, Qatar, South Yemen, and North Yemen. They had been well received, and those countries are willing to cooperate with Iran. They said that, unlike North Yemen, the rulers of South Yemen are in practice carrying out de-Islamization.

I received the news and read the reports. At ten-thirty, I went home. They had put on the film of the India trip, and we watched part of it.
