Mr. [Hossein] Mahalooji [former Minister of Mines and Metals] came and provided a report about preparing a book on the history of Kashan. He criticized the court and the Court of Audit for unnecessary strictness. He wanted to know the government's policy regarding the upcoming presidential election. Mr. [Hossein] Esfandiari, a former colleague from the Islamic Republic Party in Isfahan, came. He criticized the factional biases of the second Khordad movement and called for closer ties with us.

Mr. [Mansour] Ghafouri, the inspector of the Guardian Council, came and spoke about the managerial weaknesses of the Guardian Council. In the afternoon, Mr. [Abbas Ali] Alizadeh, the head of the Tehran judiciary, came. He talked about the conviction of wiretappers and the accusations against some detainees from the Ministry of Intelligence. He criticized Mr. [Hadi] Marvi, the First Deputy of the Judiciary, for a lack of cooperation and obstruction, and explained some of the contents of his critical letters to Mr. [Seyyed Mohammad] Khatami [the President]. He expressed satisfaction with the support from Mr. [Seyyed Mahmoud] Hashemi Shahroudi [the head of the Judiciary] and emphasized the decision to fight against opponents of the Islamic nature of the regime.

Newspapers reported that a group attacked the market during Mr. Khatami's speech in Urmia, breaking windows and stealing while chanting slogans for freedom. Mr. [Gholamreza] Hosseini, the Imam Jum'ah of Urmia, did not participate in welcoming Mr. Khatami, and the scheduled meeting with the scholars was also canceled.
