Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – May 4, 1981

I wrote yesterday's diary entries and also a message for the seminar commemorating Martyr Motahhari at the university. Mr. Abolfazl Rahnama, representative of the Revolutionary Prosecutor at the Ministry of Petroleum, came and discussed issues regarding the ministry's shortages.

At eight o'clock in the morning, I went to Parliament. Mr. Ahmad Tavakkoli consulted with me regarding joint pain and how overwork was wearing him down, stating that he wants to resign from additional positions such as secretaryship [of the Presidium] and membership on the Supervisory Council of Voice and Vision (Seda-va-Sima). It was agreed that he would gradually reduce [his workload].

A consultation was held with Dr. Velayati regarding the reply to a letter from Branch 35 of the Justice Department's Interrogation Office. In the letter, the branch had informed [us] of the progress of the case file regarding Mr. Bani-Sadr's complaint against Messrs. Rajai and Nabavi and filing charges against them concerning the hostages.

Mr. Bahrami Saveji came so that I would speak with Mr. Bahonar [Minister of Education] about correcting his case file, as he had been subjected to purging (paksazi). It seems he has been wronged and was purged over trivial matters, and surely many others are in a similar situation without our knowledge.

Then I went to the Bylaws Committee. The discussion was about committees. Mr. [Gholamhossein] Karbaschi came from Voice and Vision (Seda-va-Sima) and was concerned about the situation there. He is right, too. He said the new officials are not performing well.

In the afternoon, I held a press and radio-television interview[1]. The rejection in Parliament of the bill on "staying court eviction orders regarding rented residential properties" has drawn many questions and protests, and has been perceived as serving the interests of the oppressors (mostakbaran).

Mr. Talachian came, concerned about the ambiguity of the situation in the event of a leadership vacuum regarding the Imam, and presented some proposals. Indeed, the matter is important.

I had a meeting with the South Korean ambassador, who brought an invitation from the Speaker of the South Korean Parliament to visit South Korea, so as not to fall behind North Korea.

In the evening, I gave a speech at the Student Unit meeting of the [Islamic] Republican Party regarding the two years following the victory [of the Revolution] and answered their questions.
