The US Department of Justice today accused an individual of attempting to assassinate Trump, claiming that the assassination plot belonged to Iran and was foiled by the FBI.
The US Department of Justice has claimed that the plot to assassinate Trump was discovered during the interrogation of an Afghan national who may have been an Iranian agent.
A criminal complaint filed in Manhattan federal court alleges that the Afghan national, Farhad Shakeri, said Iran told him last September to prepare a plan to surveil and kill Trump.
According to this claim, two other individuals were also employed to participate in this assassination plot. One of them was an Iranian-American journalist who was arrested on Friday. The Associated Press has claimed that Shakeri is in Iran.
In a statement, the U.S. attorney general said, "There are few actors in the world that pose a greater threat to U.S. national security than Iran."
In this regard, Iran denied the claim of involvement in the assassination attempt on Trump
The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs rejected the claim that Iran is interfering in an attempt to assassinate former or current US officials.
