The meeting between Mr. Musk and Ambassador Amir Saeed Irvani took place in New York on Monday and lasted more than an hour

The New York Times wrote in a report by Farnaz Fassihi that Elon Musk met with Iran's ambassador to the United Nations.
Two Iranian officials said the tech billionaire, who is a close adviser to President Donald Trump, and the Iranian ambassador discussed ways to ease tensions between Iran and the United States.
According to Iranian officials, the meeting between Mr. Musk and Ambassador Amir Saeed Irvani took place in New York on Monday and lasted more than an hour and was held in a secret location. Iranian officials described the meeting as "positive" and "good news."
In response to the New York Times, Trump's communications manager said, "We do not comment on reports of private meetings that have or have not been held."
"The American people re-elected President Trump because they trust him to lead our country and restore peace through global power," Carolyn Levitt, spokeswoman for the Trump-Vance transition team, said in a statement. When he returns to the White House, he will take the necessary steps to do so."
Musk has appeared in almost all of Trump's job interviews for individuals. In a call with the Ukrainian president last week, the president-elect gave the billionaire the phone. Musk has played a key role in providing communication capacities for Ukraine in the war with Russia.
Such an early direct meeting between a senior Iranian official and Musk raises the possibility that the approach of Tehran and Washington may change under the Trump administration. An Iranian official said that the meeting was requested by Musk and that the ambassador had chosen the location of the meeting.

Two Iranian officials said that the meeting with Musk allowed them to avoid meeting directly with US officials. Musk, however, will have an official post soon.
An Iranian Foreign Ministry official said that the Iranian ambassador told Musk during the meeting that he should receive sanctions exemptions from the Treasury Department and bring some of his businesses to Tehran.
