**Jafar Koosha, President of the Nationwide Union of Iranian Bar Associations, has sent a letter to the leaders of the three branches of government and the head of the Judiciary and Legal Commission of the Revolutionary Parliament. The proposal is to remove obstacles to access to chosen legal counsel.**

Interestingly, Ebrahim Raisi, known for issuing specialized orders, has not considered this significant proposal important enough to issue a personal directive or addendum. Only Esmaili, Raisi's Chief of Staff, has forwarded the letter to the Legal Affairs Department of the Presidential Office for further action.

Currently, Clause 48 of the Criminal Procedure Code (amended 2015) creates a significant barrier for citizens accessing their chosen attorneys. If there is a genuine will from the ruling authority to address and remove such a barrier, the most effective and expedient way would be for the Judiciary to cooperate with the Legal and Judicial Commission of Parliament, and for revolutionary representatives to prepare and pass a legal draft to remove it.

However, it is clear that the authorities have not yet recognized this necessity.

Will the leaders of the other two branches of government pay more attention to this critical request from the Iranian Bar Association, and will it lead to tangible results?
