Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – October 14, 1985

After prayer, I worked until eight o'clock in the morning. The prime minister came and we consulted about the ministers of the future cabinet. I guess that Mr. [Ayatollah] Khamenei will reject most of the people suggested by him and it will be decided by the jury. [Captain Malekzadeh] the commander of the naval force came and gave the report of the naval exercise. He emphasized on the protection of the northern Persian Gulf for cooperation in future operations.

Mr. [Reza] Amrollahi [head of the Atomic Energy Organization] came and explained the progress of the construction of centrifuges for uranium enrichment. Mr. Ghori came and complained that Mr. [Mir Hossein] Mousavi does not want to keep him in the position of the Ministry of Oil.

Mr. Behzad Nabavi, [Hasan] Firouzabadi and [Gholamreza] Forozesh came and asked me for my opinion about importing heavy machinery for the fronts. Heavy Industries produces Liebherr, but they prefer Komatsu. It was decided to import as much as necessary.

In the evening, I participated in the meeting of the central council of the militant clergy community. Most of the discussion was about the mistake of the opponents of Mr. Mirhossein Mousavi, who acted against the Imam's opinion and voted against in the parliament, and this weakens their movement and strengthens their rivals. I came home at night.

Ahmad Agha came and said that the imam is ready to meet with the representatives to end the chaos caused by the opposition of 99 members of the parliament to the opinion of the imam regarding the prime minister. It was decided that we would meet on Wednesday, and he mentioned what the imam had told Mr. [Ayatollah] Khamenei about not opposing the government and rejecting unscrupulous people, and he said that the president had accepted it. We also discussed the proposed ministers of Mr. Mirhossein Mousavi.
