I had breakfast alone. Yaser Beh Ahvaz, Mohsen and Mehdi, along with the team of the Ministry of Oil, have gone to Kuwait to check the state of the industry and oil wells in Kuwait, which were burning, and the process of providing assistance and reconstruction, as well as how to turn off the wells. I reached my office at half past eight in the morning. Mr. [Ataullah] Mohajerani, [Sabah] Zanganeh, [Hussein] Sheikhul Islam, [Mohammed Ali] Abtahi, [Syed Ali Akbar] Mohtashmi, [Syed Abd al-Wahed] Mousavi Lari, [Akbar] Poresh and [Ebrahim] Asgharzadeh, the group of curators of the Palestinian conference, which was formed with the approval of the parliament, came. They asked for an opinion about the time and composition of the guests, etc.; I said that I prefer it to be delayed in order to clarify different opinions about Palestine; I agreed with the arrival of guests from Fatah organization.
[Mr. Gianni DeMichelis], Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs came. He called for coordination between Iran and the European community regarding Iraq and the security of the region and said that Iran's losses should also be considered in the issue of compensation for Iraq's war mongering. He spoke about the interest in developing relationships, and I emphasized the same. He asked my opinion about the basis of the future of politics in Iraq. I said that the basis should be the will of the Iraqi people and nothing should be imposed on them; He accepted and said that efforts are being made to establish democracy in Kuwait.
He asked for a private time and in the presence of Dr. Velayati, [Foreign Affairs Minister], he gave the message of the American President [George Bush] that he wanted the hostages in Lebanon to be released and the relations between Iran and the United States to be restored. I said that it seems that the Lebanese are willing to release the hostages in exchange for the freedom of the Lebanese prisoners in Israel. America should release the blocked assets of Iran, so that the ground for improving relations in the future is provided.
Dr. Velayati asked us to help free [Roger] Cooper. Recently [Ms. Margaret Thatcher], the Prime Minister of England sent a message and demanded to fulfill the promise of [Roger] Cooper's freedom in exchange for [Mehrdad] Kokbi's freedom. I spoke with Mr. [Mohammed] Yazdi, [Head of the Judiciary], on the phone. It was decided to be released based on the agreement of the leadership. I also warned Mr. Yazdi, the governor of Kerman, about the case, to investigate it carefully.
I worked in my office until five o'clock in the evening. I came home Iftar Fati, Azam, Saeed and the children also came.
