Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – June 3, 1993

I reached my office at eight o'clock and prepared the materials for my radio and television election speech by ten o'clock in the morning. The interview lasted about three quarters of an hour.

A group of foreign guests came for the Imam's anniversary ceremony. I met them in the former prime minister's hall. Mr. [Mohammed Ali] Ansari explained and I made a short speech about the personality of the Imam and the characteristics of the Islamic revolution. Then in another hall, about thirty

I received some of the foreign guests who were introduced and I greeted them. Most of them were Iraqi Kurds, Tajiks and Turkmens, and Mrs. Waziri was also from Zimbabwe.

Mr. Seyyed Mohammad Hashemi came. He has resigned from the cultural deputy of Shahid Foundation. Mr. [Mohammad Hassan] Rahimian, [the head of the Shahid Foundation] said some of the mismanagement, but there was no reasoned and clear evidence of mismanagement in his statements, except for changing some of the factors of the previous managements and limiting the powers of others and preventing unaccountable expenses. He announced that there was a disagreement among the members of the militant clerics' assembly, especially about participation in election campaigns, and finally a significant number of them decided to publish a declaration for the signatures of individuals and approve me. I advised them that it is not in their best interest to withdraw themselves from the important issues of the society.

Imam Juma, the representative and governor of Garmsar came and asked for the transfer of water from Tehran to Garmsar through the abandoned former oil pipe and the construction of a dam, etc.; I told the oil minister to hand over the pipe.

In the evening, we went to Jihad Hospital to test my tooth's night guard and heart mobility test, which was done while doing heavy exercise with a special machine under the supervision of Dr. Nazeri. It was very satisfactory and they brought the heart rate up to 165 per second and everything was working normally; It was interesting to me.

At night, I went to Imam's shrine and gave a speech at Imam's anniversary ceremony. I reached home at half past eleven and slept tiredly. Mr. Nouri [Shahrudi] called from Libya and said that Libya is complaining about the cancellation of the trip of Mr. Besharti, [Minister of the Interior], because of the trip of Libyan pilgrims to Jerusalem.
