Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – July 27, 1983

I worked in my office until 8 AM. I wrote the Persian text of the Arabic sermon for Friday prayers and sent it for translation. Until noon, we had an official meeting of the Assembly of Experts [of the Leadership]. At noon, we had lunch with the President and Messrs. Meshkini and [Seyyed Asadollah] Lajvardi [Tehran's Revolutionary Prosecutor] as guests of Mr. [Mousavi] Ardabili [Chief Justice of the Supreme Court]. We had the opportunity to discuss judicial matters in Tehran. I went to the parliament. At 4 PM, we had another meeting of the Assembly of Experts [of the Leadership]; since the discussion was within the scope of the research group's duties, it was a bit heated and accompanied by political stances. In the President's office, we had a meeting with the Supreme Economic Council regarding price control and equitable distribution of goods. Decisions were made regarding the list of goods whose prices need to be controlled, and the distribution channel was determined, and responsibilities were assigned to several individuals for price determination, quality control, and penalties. We had dinner there; it was brought from a cafe. The Revolutionary Guards announced that there was leftover kebab, but the guests ate it. Late at night, [Ayatollah] Mr. Khamenei informed that Mr. Asgaroladi [Minister of Commerce] had resigned.

I came to the parliament. I received the 12 AM news and went to sleep. We had some movements on the front. I saw an interesting film of war spoils from Operation Valfajr-2. They captured the new military center today. Western media had made a lot of fuss about my and Mr. Velayati's [Foreign Minister] statements regarding making the Persian Gulf insecure if [oil platforms on Khark Island] Khark were hit and Iran's oil exports were cut off.
