Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – July 22, 1983

Early in the morning, I inquired about the war front's situation. It became clear that no significant changes had occurred. We had captured two or three more heights. The President quoted Mr. Colonel Sayyad [Shirazi] as saying that about three thousand Iraqis had been killed and our situation was good. Due to field difficulties, few prisoners were taken. Ahmad Agha came and spoke about Imam's displeasure with the dismissal of [my brother] Mohammad and added: Imam believes that the constitution does not mean that the three branches of government should participate in the administration of صداوسیما (radio and television broadcasting), and he insisted that I tell Messrs. [Seyyed Reza] Zavare'i and [Hassan] Rouhani [parliamentary representatives in the Supervisory Council of to resign. I said it was not appropriate for me to interfere. We also discussed the front and the positions of the Persian Gulf countries.

I assigned the Friday prayer to Mr. [Mohammad] Emami Kashani. Mr. [Mohammad Hassan] Zouragh, the political deputy of صداوسیما [and the executive branch's representative in the Supervisory Council], came and complained about the influence and harassment by the [organization] Mujahedin of the Islamic Revolution, Mr. Rasti's [Kashani] group, and believed that they had prepared the grounds for dismissal. In the afternoon, the President informed us that we had made progress in Haj Omran. At night, we were informed that we had captured the Haj Omran garrison and the Darband strait. A message arrived from the President of South Korea regarding their readiness to sell Korean-made weapons and deliver American parts. Dr. Rouhani came and gave a detailed explanation of the roots of his differences with my brother Mohammad and the history of the matter up to today. He was aware of Imam's order for the two parliamentary representatives to resign from the Supervisory Council
