Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – February 1, 1992

I reached my office at half past eight in the morning. The streets were deserted due to the closure [on the occasion of Fajr decade]. Although it has snowed a lot, most of the streets have been cleared.

[Mr. Hadi Arang Naib and Yahya Othman], two leaders of Hizb-e-Islami [Pan] Malaysia came. Among the guests of the congress are thinkers. They said that in the state of "Kelantan", their party has won and Islamic regulations such as Islamic hijab, prohibition of alcoholic beverages, closure of illegal women's hair salons, etc. They claim that 25% of Muslims throughout Malaysia voted for their party. 58% of Malaysia's population of 18 million are Muslims. They demanded the development of our economic and cultural relations with the Muslim states of this country.

Mr. Seyyed [Mohammed Hossein] Fazlullah came from Lebanon and told about the situation in this country. He is worried about the situation of Shia and Hezbollah after the normalization of Lebanese affairs. He thinks that Hezbollah's current policy is not suitable for these conditions and they have no plans for the future. He wanted us to give a plan. He asked for help for his cultural works and praised the policy of my government and my statements and the recent encounter in my trip to Africa.

Mr. Fathi Yegan, the head of the Islamic Jamiat of North Lebanon came. We talked about the movement of the Muslim Brotherhood. He is a bright person. It is influenced by the Iranian Islamic Revolution. Mr. [Syed Muhammad Baqir] Hakim and his brother came. They gave a report on the readiness of a group of Iraqi soldiers to take action [coup against Saddam Hussein]; They have sent a courier to him and told them their plan and asked for help. We decided to investigate the issue in the Supreme National Security Council. Earlier, the Minister of Information had reported the issue.

A group of Afghan poets and scholars came. Two people spoke on behalf of the Islamic parties, and two poets read their poems and thanked the Islamic Republic for their assistance and complained about the treatment of some Afghans who were wrongdoers. I spoke and gave advice for unity and preparation for the reconstruction of Afghanistan. I said to give a coin to each poet. There were about one hundred and forty poets. I did things until four in the afternoon.

In the evening, I went to Laleh Hotel to open the Fajr decade festivities. The guests were foreign and domestic. Mr. [Syed Mohammad] Khatami, [Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance] gave a short report and I explained the stages of the revolution and the achievements. I came home

From the balcony on the top floor of the house, I saw the illuminations and fireworks [Deha Fajr].

Interestingly, in the reports, the news of the return of the sick George Habash from France attracts attention; It is a sign of government weakness and backwardness.
