I participated in the dust removal program of the Holy Shrine of Imam Reza (AS). Mr. Safi [Golpaygani] and Mahdavi Kani, Emami Kashani, Rasouli [Mahlati], Javadi [Amli], [Mohammedreza] Tausli, Ferdowsi and [Waez] Tabasi were also there. More than fifty million tomans of money and a large amount of gold had been poured into the holy shrine by the pilgrims during this period of five months. After collecting the money, we swept the shrine and washed it with rose water. It was a good visit. People must be upset about the two or three hour ban on visiting the shrine. Our companions and guards came.
The General Director of Information of [Khorasan] province came. He said about the espionage work of Afghans and Russians and the counter-revolution and the problems of line differences. We visited the reconstruction project of Felake and the large library of Astana. It is a very big plan.
In the evening, I gave a speech for them at Basijian center in Mashhad and from there we went to the airport. I interviewed and we entered Mehrabad at night. I greeted my companions on the plane. They were satisfied and grateful for this trip. At night, I asked the Prime Minister and the President over the phone. Mr. [Ayatollah] Khamenei explained the mission of the Syrian Foreign Minister
They said that they came mainly to intercede for the countries of the south of the Persian Gulf, especially Saudi Arabia, so that we do not punish them for supporting Iraq. They brought the reports, I read them.
