Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – August 1, 1983

I stayed home all day today; it was a good rest. I also wrote a few pages of the article "Seventh of Tir [Narrative of Separation]". Part of my time was spent reading the memoirs of [Zbigniew] Brzezinski [US National Security Advisor] about the events related to the fall of the Shah and the victory of the Islamic Revolution. Many things can be learned from these memoirs. One of them is the significant damage of dependence for those who are dependent and their humiliating days when the support of their master weakens, and another is the heartlessness of the colonialists and their exclusive focus on their own interests, and another is the weakness of both, who kneel before the power of the people, and many other things.

I asked someone from Imam's office to come, so we could think of a way to cool down in the summer; the weather has become very hot, and we don't have an air conditioner; last night, I had to sleep in the yard, which was not safe. I also asked a question from the Guardian Council; regarding the interpretation of Article 111, whether the experts can write internal regulations in later periods, or if it is only possible in this session? Doubts have arisen.

I inquired about the situation on the front. It was decided that my office would send the news. Mr. Jasbi [President of Islamic Azad University] asked me to tell [Mr. Mohammad Gharazi] the Minister of Oil to give an empty building to Jihad so that Jihad could transfer the building of the Mostazafan Foundation to Islamic Azad University. Mohsen came from Rafsanjan and reported on the health of relatives, especially my dear mother; I was happy. My mother lives in a village without facilities, and she is old. We don't have a telephone connection, and this is a cause for concern. [Ayatollah] Mr. Khamenei informed that Mr. Asgaroladi had not accepted the Ministry of Welfare. Last night, it was decided to emphasize it to him; I guessed so. Because Mr. [Asadollah] Badamchian, in his speeches, was against this view and even against the continuation of Mr. [Mir-Hossein] Mousavi's premiership; he was talking about the premiership of Dr. Velayati.
