Participation of Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani in the seminar of the commanders of the Law Enforcement Force, where they thanked him for his presence. According to Hashemi, the President and the Minister of Interior at the time had paid little attention to the force, which seemed to stem from the incidents following the University of Tehran dormitory events.

Follow-up on the pardon of Gholamhossein Karbaschi in the meeting of the heads of the branches of government. Based on Ayatollah Hashemi Shahroudi’s suggestion, Karbaschi was to write a confidential letter requesting a pardon, and he would then be included in the public amnesty list. Additionally, Seyyed Mohammad Khatami reported on the lack of organization among the clerics in Esfahan for a meeting with them.

Hashemi's account of the honor shown by the House of Saud to his wife and son during their Umrah pilgrimage.

I went to Azadi Stadium to attend the inauguration of the Law Enforcement Force commanders’ seminar. Thousands of police station and precinct commanders were gathered. Mr. [Heydar] Lotfian, [Commander of the Law Enforcement Force], gave a welcoming speech and provided a report, mentioning that there are about 4,000 police stations and precincts active nationwide. He stated that there is a need for an additional 2,000 units and that the current forces are not fully equipped, outlining the shortages and future plans. I delivered an extensive speech on the position, duties, and rights of the Law Enforcement Force.

They expressed gratitude for my participation, as Mr. [Seyyed Mohammad] Khatami, [President], and [Abdolvahed Mousavi Lari], the Minister of Interior, have not paid serious attention to their needs.

Joint sessions were held by the infrastructure, cultural, and political commissions of the Expediency Council to discuss communication issues, but the discussions on the general matters remained incomplete.

In the afternoon, members of the Islamic Student Associations Union came. They presented a report on their activities and history, stating that they had based their work on the policy of moderation inspired by my approach. They emphasized that most students today are tired of extremism and lean towards moderation. They posed several questions, and I gave a detailed response, endorsing the path of moderation.

In the evening, we had a meeting at Mr. [Seyyed Mahmoud Hashemi] Shahroudi's office, [Chief Justice of Iran], with the heads of the branches of government. We discussed matters related to the chain murders and how to proceed with investigations and trials. The issue of Mr. Karbaschi's pardon was raised. Mr. Shahroudi suggested that if he writes a confidential letter requesting a pardon, he will be included in the public amnesty list. Mr. Khatami expressed dissatisfaction with the disorganization in his trip to Esfahan and the lack of coordination among the clerics, which resulted in the cancellation of a meeting with them.

At 4 a.m. today, Effat [Hashemi’s wife] returned from her Umrah pilgrimage. She was satisfied with the normal proceedings and her pilgrimage experience, stating that they had cleared the Prophet’s Mosque for their visit, and Mahdi [Hashemi’s son] had received three cards to participate in the Kaaba washing ceremony. He gave two cards to Mr. [Mohammad Reza] Noori [Shahroudi, Iran's Ambassador to Saudi Arabia] for others, and Mahdi himself received a broom and participated in the washing ceremony. Afterward, the broom was given to Mahdi, and when he exited the Kaaba, people took parts of the broom as a blessing.
