Following the bombing of a center in Mosul and the death of four people, the Iraqi government, in a letter to Kofi Annan, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, stated its willingness to negotiate unconditionally regarding renewed inspections. It is uncertain whether the U.S. will be satisfied with this and is expected to demand the acceptance of inspectors without conditions. It is predicted that Iraq will surrender at the last moments if it perceives the attack as serious. Today, they responded that the return of inspectors is not negotiable.

We went to the Mosque of Hazrat Abul Fazl (AS) in the West Town for a ceremony to introduce and encourage prayer leaders, benefactors, and servants of mosques. Mr. Seyed Mahdi Khamoushi, head of the Islamic Propaganda Organization, reported, and I presented awards to 12 prayer leaders, benefactors, servants, and researchers. I spoke about the role of mosques and prayer leaders and the necessity of training competent and managerial prayer leaders.

I went to my office. In the afternoon, Mr. Osama bin Jafar bin Ibrahim Faqih, the Minister of Commerce of Saudi Arabia, came. We discussed the development of cooperation. He said that negative propaganda from the U.S. after September 11 against Islam and Saudi Arabia had been severe, and there is no substantiated evidence against the accused, 15 of whom are identified as Saudi nationals. I stated that the Islamic world must cooperate to counter this propaganda.

The family of Mostafa Davoodzadeh, including his sister, wife, child, and daughter-in-law, came. They complained about the military court, claiming that their son Mostafa had been unjustly detained. Iftikhar and companions had traveled from Mecca to Egypt and reported that they are residing at the Iranian embassy.

Hamid Karzai, the head of the Afghan interim government, changed the official calendar from lunar to solar; previously, the Taliban had switched their calendar from solar to lunar. Today, in Nigeria, thousands have been killed, injured, and displaced due to internal conflicts.

The report from the Ministry of Intelligence states that Iraq deceived Iran in the recent negotiations for the exchange of prisoners, handing over 51 members of the Mujahideen Khalq Organization, who had defected and ended up in prison, instead of the actual prisoners, creating issues for both the Mujahideen and Iraq.
