Filmmaker Jafar Panahi posted a video on Instagram showing Mehdi Mahmoudian's mother, after announcing her hunger strike, in support of her son: "If you don't release my child by tomorrow noon, I will come to the prison and sit there, arrest me as well. I'm just waiting until noon tomorrow."

Mahmoudian, who was arrested on February 4 and transferred to Evin Prison, announced that he had been on a hunger strike since the moment he entered the prison to protest the unjust sentences issued by the Judiciary.
