There are almost no living wetlands left in Fars; Bakhtegan Wetland has been dry for more than 14 to 15 years and, except for a small area, there is no water in it. Parishan Wetland has been dry for nearly 17 years, Arjan for about 18 years, and Maharlu has become a seasonal wetland that is fed by runoff and wastewater from the Shiraz area.
