The registration of certain individuals for the presidential election has shown that defining the qualifications of candidates based on Clause 5, Article 10 of the General Election Policies has not fully resolved the challenge of ensuring qualified candidates register for the election.
Although the Guardian Council’s criteria for presidential candidates were helpful, they were not sufficient, and the election law still requires reform.
In some countries, individuals cannot participate in elections unless they secure a minimum number of signatures from officials.
