"The First Branch of the Supreme Court issued a noteworthy ruling, overturning the verdict from the Criminal Court of Varamin regarding washing the corpse on the charge of hijab violation and accepted the request for retrial."

"In July 2023, a ruling attributed to Branch 104 of the Criminal Court of Varamin was published, whereby a woman was sentenced to wash a corpse for one month due to non-compliance with hijab regulations.

In this ruling, the Criminal Court of Varamin fined a woman 31 million rials in lieu of two months' imprisonment for not adhering to hijab in her vehicle, and as an additional penalty, sentenced her to wash a corpse for one month as community service at a morgue in Tehran.

In the published ruling, the Supreme Court noted both procedural and substantive errors in the initial court's decision, stating that before determining community service for the accused, the accused's consent regarding the type, duration, and hours of free public service should have been obtained, and only then should the ruling have been issued."
