Fatemeh Hashemi Rafsanjani, the eldest daughter of Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, discussed the last hours of her father's life and the investigations surrounding his death in an interview with Etemad newspaper.

Here are some excerpts from Fatemeh Hashemi Rafsanjani's remarks:

"On Sunday, I spoke with him several times in the morning. He even called me and said he was going to the pool. I feel he might have sensed something because he never called on Sundays for me and my mother to come to the pool. My mother mentioned that she had guests until 5 or 6 PM. Then my father told me to come; I wish I had gone (she cries). I said I had a dental appointment; should I come? He said no, you already have a doctor. I have a video of my father that day where he held a meeting of the Energy Commission. Everyone said Mr. Hashemi went up and down these stairs several times.

We followed up extensively, but Mr. Shamkhani did not continue. In the last meeting where Mr. Shamkhani invited us to the Supreme National Security Council, he told us that he could no longer continue the matter and that they were telling him that I wanted to declare Mr. Hashemi a martyr! This was a statement he made to us while we have substantial evidence.

In November, two months before my father's death, two men came to the university whom I did not recognize. I saw two men, around 60 years old with graying hair, sitting there.

They said, 'We have come to inform you that they want to kill your father, and they will do it in such a way that you will think it was a natural death.' I asked, 'Why would they want to kill my father?' They replied, 'Because they are worried about what will happen after Mr. Khamenei.' Moreover, they have lost three elections: the 2013 presidential election, the 2014 parliamentary election, and the Assembly of Experts election, and the list supported by Mr. Hashemi has gained votes, making them anxious about upcoming elections, especially the 2017 election, which is less significant compared to the next Assembly of Experts election.

I said, 'My father is five years older than Mr. Khamenei. If it's about age, my father would pass away sooner.' They said no; in their private meetings, they say Mr. Hashemi is healthy and vigorous, which worries them a lot.

Recently, my father's protection was inadequate... I urged the head of the protection team to review the pool cameras. Initially, he would not allow it; later he said that area had been sealed off and they would not permit access. He was supposed to coordinate for us to see the camera footage but failed to do so... Ultimately, my brothers went, but they were still not shown the videos and said they did not know how to turn them on! They just took a brief look and left!

In the first month after the death, I asked one of the security personnel, 'Can you give me the footage from the cameras at the Assembly from one or two days before to one or two days after my father's death?' Initially, he said yes, but after two weeks, he claimed all the footage had been deleted! It later became clear that the head of the team had opposed giving us the footage; this guard later told us that the team leader had said he would personally provide the footage to the family, but he did not.

On the night my father died, Mohsen was searching for the will, but it could not be found. I suggested we go to the Assembly since my father had a safe and two drawers there, with the keys always in his possession. However, there was nothing there; many items had been removed, and the drawers were empty.

Once, a member of the physical protection team came to me and said that when we still did not know he had died, two men entered and went to Haj Agha's room.

The report that Mr. Shamkhani sent to Mr. Rouhani was not accepted by him. He initialed it but we only know that he did not accept it and apparently raised a question. Mr. Shamkhani directly stated that he would not continue.

They themselves claim that the pool cameras were on. The cameras were taken by the Supreme National Security Council to monitor when my father entered, how long he stayed, and when he came out; for instance, after my father's protectors pulled him from the water, they held him there for 12 minutes before taking him to the hospital, which took 11 minutes. However, it is less than a two-minute journey from there to the hospital.
