Akbarnejad: After the revolution of 1957, we suffered from the illusion of being "Islamist".

That is, we said that the Islam presented by the Islamic Republic is the pure Islam of Mohammed. And any reading other than that of Islam is either American or reactionary. 
Islamism itself made us use all religious elements to strengthen the system. 

Not only did this not help the Islamic Republic, it also hurt the religiosity of the people.
