Peivandi was sentenced to 6 years in prison and a fine equal to 2 times the amount of embezzlement, restitution of property from the university, and permanent dismissal from government services, and three counts of illegitimate education, 2 years imprisonment and restitution of property, and on the charge of unauthorized appropriation of the Red Crescent Society's funds to establish a company in Germany without a license. He was sentenced to 74 lashes, which was appealed within the legal deadline, and the sentence was upheld by the Court of Appeal.

Ali Al-Qasi, the Head of the Judiciary of Tehran Province, regarding the latest status of this case: Ali Asghar Peivandi's case was sent to the Supreme Court with a request for a retrial, and the case was sent to the same branch that issued the final ruling.

The court rejected the retrial, and upheld the sentence in its entirety.
