Earlier, the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Trade, in a move, proposed to the government to collect 100% import duties on car imports in 2025.

The Trade Development Organization immediately retracted its stance a few days ago that 100 percent of import duties should be levied on car imports at the same time as the increase in the calculated exchange rate at customs.

Previously, the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Trade had proposed to the government to collect 100% import duties on car imports in 1404, which was finally approved and notified to the customs a few days ago by the Trade Development Organization, which is a subsidiary of the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Trade. This action coincided with the increase in the calculated exchange rate in customs from the dollar base of 28,500 tomans to more than 68,000 tomans, which was followed by a wave of criticism that did not even include a reduction in commercial profits to prevent the inflationary wave of imported cars, which speculated about the successful lobbying of automakers with the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Trade.

It seems that at the same time as the wave of criticism of the performance of the Ministry of Industry, Mining and Trade in the field of car imports increases, today the officials of the Trade Development Organization have withdrawn from this policy and announced to the Customs: The sources of import duties for imported cars will be in accordance with last year's sources until the issue is determined in the executive regulations of the budget law, and for example, all-electric cars will be charged 4% and hybrid cars will be charged 15%.

In an immediate action today, Iran Customs announced the directive of the Trade Development Organization to the country's executive customs: Until the notification of the executive regulations of paragraph "R" of Note 1 of the budget law for the year 1404, the import duty rate of imported cars is the same as in 1403 and currently the source of import duties is not 100 percent.

Therefore, we must wait and see what policy the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Trade, which is in charge of both production and policy-making of car imports to the country, will adopt in the future in the field of car imports.
