The head of the Iranian Medical Council Organization said: "Since at least five months ago, more than 15,000 private pharmacies in the country have about 18,000 billion tomans from the Targeted Subsidies Organization, 7.8 trillion tomans from the Social Security Organization, and 5,000 billion tomans from other insurance organizations, and the aforementioned organizations have made the payment of claims contingent on the provision of resources from employers and workshops." This has led to a severe shortage of cash to supply new medicines, an increase in bounced checks from pharmacies, and as a result, problems in people's access to essential medicines
