Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – September 30, 1987

I came to the parliament. Mr. [Mahdi [Karoubi], the deputy speaker of the parliament [came and consulted about the establishment of the Shahid Foundation branch for Iraqi martyrs and Iraqi dissidents inside Iraq, as well as Mujahid Afghans - as is going on in Lebanon - and asked for help. The next year's Hajj and the quality of treatment with Saudi Arabia were discussed and decided to be evaluated. He is unhappy with the presence of Mr.] Mahdi] Tayeb in the "Z" committee, which puts pressure on the IRGC.

The commanders of the Islamic Revolution Committee came and explained the anti-narcotics program - which is supposed to be presented in the meeting of the three powers - and asked for help. Mr. Rajaee Khorasani [Permanent Representative of Iran to the United Nations] came. He is going to the United Nations. He asked for permission to enter into negotiations on the restoration of relations with Saudi Arabia. Conditioned on Saudi apologizing and compensating for its past actions, I accepted and said that if we don't get involved, it will be in the interest of both sides.

Mr. Abdullah Nouri [Chairman of the Parliament's Program and Budget Commission] came. We negotiated the war budget deficit. Regarding the possible reactions of Mr. Montazeri's house regarding the execution of Seyyed Mehdi Hashemi, he expressed concern that it might damage his reputation.

In the evening, the board of the parliament had a meeting. The night of the meeting of the heads of forces was in the president's office. We decided to launch missiles at Baghdad if Iraq's wickedness continues and prepare for the war of cities. It was also decided to form a commission to collect documents of Iraqi aggression under the supervision of Ayatollah Khamenei. We also discussed about the stagnation of the Hague Court due to US interference in internal affairs, and it was decided to investigate the issue.
