At nine o'clock in the morning, we went to Tehran University to participate in the ceremony of the beginning of the academic year. [Dr. Mohammad Rahimian and Dr. Mohammad Hasan Bastan Haq], presidents of Tehran University and Tehran Medical Sciences reported. I gave certificates of appreciation to distinguished professors and students and gave a speech.

I went to my office. Mr. [Mohammed] Salamati, [Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs] came. He used technical and professional training to strengthen the Supreme Council. In the evening Mr. [Mohsen] Noorbakhsh, [Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance] came. He reported on his trip to America and offered to sell oil and buy American goods. Mr. [Syed Hossein] Hosseini Shahroudi, [the representative of Shahroud], came to Semnan regarding the trip.

The Economic Council had a meeting. We approved the policies of the 1372 budget, including the approval of the single rate of the currency. In the evening, I gave a dinner in honor of the Afghan guests. We discussed the situation in Afghanistan, the type of our aid, the issues of Tajikistan, the cooperation of the Persian speakers of the three countries, and assistance to the Tajiks. We want to make effective contributions to strengthen Persian languages; They have a chance to take over the government. It was decided to accelerate the printing of banknotes and giving food and fuel.
