Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – October 10, 1992

I reached my office at half past eight in the morning. After reading the reports, the meetings started. Mr. [Ferydoun] Mahdinejad, [= Verdinejad], the new head of the news organization [Islamic Republic, IRNA] came. He reported on the situation of the organization in the past and explained the reforms from the wrong and deviant positions of the previous ones and got guidance for the future. It seems that it is working well. It was agreed that he would hand over the documents related to the McFarlane incident, which he had, to Mohsen [Hashmi, the CEO of Ma'arif Elkhebal Publishing House].

Mr. [Ahmed] Janati, [representative of the jurist in the affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina] came and asked for help for Bosnia and Herzegovina. About 80 million Tomans of public assistance has been collected. He wants currency at the government rate. He also asked for help for the building of the Guardian Council.

Mr. [Abul Qasim] Khazali, [juristic member of the Guardian Council] came. He asked for a post for two people. He has said about them many times. He warned against bribery and administrative corruption and appreciated the policies of the government.

Dr. [Hasan] Habibi, [first vice president] came for the current affairs and future budget of the [presidential] institution. In the evening, Mr. [Mohsen] Nourbakhsh, [Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance], [Mohammed Hossein] Adeli, [Chairman of the Central Bank], [Gholamreza] Aghazadeh, [Minister of Oil] and Seyed Sadeq Kharazi, [Deputy Permanent Representative of Iran to the United Nations] came. A decision was made regarding the plan of economic transactions with America by selling oil and using 500 million dollars from our demands.

After Maghrib prayer, I went to Akhtar Hospital. Dr. Saeed [theology] fixed my teeth. I returned home at half past seven in the evening. They reported that three sound bombs exploded in Behesht Zahra and Imam's shrine and several people were injured.
