Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – September 22, 1982

After the prayer, I began studying, and at eight o'clock I went to the Parliament. After handling administrative work and having breakfast, the meetings began. Our ambassadors to Bangladesh and the UAE came, and I discussed political objectives with them. Our policy is one of attraction.

Physical education teachers came, and I spoke to them about sports. The heads of the broadcasting centers from the counties came, and I spoke with them as well. Doctors and other graduates who had entered military service came, and I spoke to them at length. The commander of the IRGC forces in Lebanon and Syria came, gave a report, and asked about our policy regarding dealing with Amal, the people, and the clergy.

Mr. Montazer Qaem came from Yazd and was concerned about the disagreements between Mr. [Mohammad Ali] Sadoughi and Mr. [Ruhollah] Khatami. The families of the martyrs from Ramsar and Tonekabon came, and I spoke with them and offered my condolences. I officiated the marriage ceremony of an IRGC member.

At night, a group of members of the Society of Seminary Teachers of Qom came. They complained about some of my statements in the Friday prayer against capitalism, criticized Ayatollah Montazeri's office, and sought solutions. They had dinner at the Parliament, and I was unable to attend the meetings we had at the President's office regarding the broadcasting organization.
