Until seven in the morning, I studied and wrote the Arabic sermon for Friday prayers. Dr. Ki-Nejad, the nominee for Minister of Agriculture, came. I encouraged him to accept. He has been resentful since the past over the mistreatment he suffered during his governorship of Hamadan, and is more inclined to do work at the university without executive responsibility.
In the open session, the bill concerning the Ministry of Guidance was rejected. After the recess, I came to my office. Salmanī came for an adjustment. I also performed a marriage ceremony for the wife of a martyr—who did not consider remarriage objectionable. At noon, Mr. Fahri came from Syria to meet me and brought Mr. Montazeri's letter stating the necessity of retaining Mr. Kanani in charge of our Revolutionary Guards forces in Lebanon. Mr. Mohtashami has interceded with him for this purpose.
The Sunni and Shiite clerics of the border cities of Khorasan came and were guests of the parliament for lunch. I spoke to them briefly. [Ali Akbar] Pourostad, the representative of Tehran, came and gave me a critical letter concerning the country's current affairs.
Mr. Shahraki, the representative of Zabol, came and brought a plan for using the water of Hamun, which I sent to the Ministry of Energy. He presented a list of the work carried out in Sistan and recalled the political mistakes of some representatives during the Bani-Sadr turmoil. In the afternoon, the [members of] Jihad [of Construction] of Kerman and Gilan and representatives of the Islamic village councils came; I spoke to them at length. The head of the [Islamic Republic] Party in Damavand came and was critical of the performance of the Mojahedin of the Islamic Revolution Organization and sought advice on how to deal with it; I recommended unity. Mr. Karimi—the alternate Friday-prayer chanter in Tehran—came and criticized the manner of dealing with matters, saying that they dealt with them along factional lines. Colonel Torabi came and spoke about the air and naval forces and the [Super Etendard] aircraft and France. He wanted a solution to be found for the air force. At night, Mr. Hadi Ghaffari [representative of Tehran] came and criticized the management of the military industries. At night, I came home.
