Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – October 19, 1983

After the prayer, I went to the Majlis. I took care of the administrative matters and read the reports. The entire time of the open session was spent on the bill concerning Islamic labor councils. During the recess, I attended to the representatives’ requests. Usually, before the session, during the session’s proceedings, and during the recess, the representatives share their personal or social matters, or their complaints and suggestions, with me.

At noon, a group of representatives came with Mr. Karoubi to find a solution to the problem of the disabled veterans of the Revolution, who have recently risen in strong protest against Mr. Karoubi and the Martyrs Foundation, and Mr. Karoubi considers the Revolutionary Guards to be the instigators. They were seeking a solution. We sent three representatives to negotiate with the war-disabled veterans and propose a solution. Mr. Al-e Ahmad came from the Prosecutor’s Office and claimed that a corrupt person named Abdollahi was falsely associating himself with me and Mr. Montazeri. I told them to investigate.

In the afternoon, we had a meeting of the [Majlis] Presiding Board, and at night we were guests of Mr. [Mousavi] Ardebili, together with the President and Ahmad Aqa. We discussed the war and peace, high prices, the rice plan, and other matters. Mr. [Mousavi] Ardebili reported the discovery of a large gang that was stealing goods from the Ministry of Commerce and selling them at high prices in the market, and said that in their homes, very valuable items belonging to the former regime had also been found—which they had presumably stolen from somewhere. Mr. [Kamal] Kharrazi came and consulted about the propaganda theme for Operation Valfajr 4. The attack is scheduled to begin tonight. I prayed for the combatants and their victory, and went to sleep at twelve midnight.
