Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – October 14, 1984

I went to the assembly early in the morning. I read the reports until eight in the morning. In the public meeting [Islamic Council] before the order, I condoled the martyrdom of Ayatollah Ashrafi [Isfahani Imam Juma Bakhtran]. They reported, unfortunately, two of Kurdistan's lawyers died the previous day and [brother] Ali Nadizadeh [representatives of the first round of Piranshahr, Sardasht and Marivan] - due to an accident and cancer - I offered my condolences. Two or three orders were made.

In the afternoon, [Hujjat al-Islam Farjani] Imam Juma of Firozabad [Persia] came and gave a report on the situation of the [Qashqai] nomads and the needs of the region and recommended the need for road construction and development of the plains and the development of fodder production. Mrs. [Ateqah Siddiqi, Martyr's wife] Rajaei came and spoke in support of Mr. [Syedkazem] Akrami's ministry. Mr. Khosravi and Bouzari, who were answered by Mr. Seyedzadeh from the parliament, came to complain.

Our doctor came to Qatar. He gave a report about the number and power of Iranians in Qatar, the drought and the bad economic situation of this country, their fear and their inner interest in friendship with Iran. I said that if they want, we can supply fresh water to Qatar with a pipe from under the sea. Provided that they invest by themselves; It was claimed that they have helped Iraq with about five billion dollars.

In the evening, the [members] of the Defense Commission came. They talked about the selection of Mr. [Colonel Farrokh Azimi] Etamadi for the Ministry of Defense. I participated in the central council of the [Islamic Republic] party. The general company was ordered to provide the party's budget and describe the duties of the economic unit. We negotiated to launch the Majlis party unit. In order to prevent the party from becoming one-dimensional, I spoke about the comprehensiveness of the unit.

At night, we had a brief meeting in the president's office. Mr. [Mohammed Ali] Mohadi Kermani, [Bakhtran Juma Imam] informed that the office of the imam and the secretariat of the Juma imams told him that it has been decided that the Bakhtran Juma imam will be permanent, and since Mr. Mohdi cannot be there permanently, they intend to announce that he will no longer be leaving.

The Prime Minister [Mr. Mirhossein Mousavi] spoke on the phone about the introduction of the Minister of Defense and the removal of the limit of 100,000 tomans on the import of goods by Iranian workers in the Persian Gulf countries. They wanted to hold a consultative meeting for the bad currency situation.
