Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – November 7, 1985

I worked in my office until eight o'clock in the morning and stayed in the public meeting until I breathed. There were many referrals from the representatives. Usually, many letters and reports are received by representatives, which takes a lot of time. Before noon, Mr. [Mohammed Reza] came to Bahner and complained about the pressures they are putting on them after the government issue and their opposition to the Imam's opinion. I said that the issues should not be fueled so that they are forgotten. In the afternoon, I had several visits from the representatives and the commanders of the Gilan Corps came to meet.

In the evening, Captain Dadbin came and was unhappy with the decision of a part of the army to remain in the Lulan Valley of Iraqi territory. He suggested canceling the decision and complained about self-centeredness and not paying attention to the opinions of others.

Mr. Doa'i, the head of the [Islamic Republic] party, came to Yazd. He was employed in our embassy in Australia and told about the problems of Yazd due to the difference of scholars. The officials of the Friday prayer headquarters came to Tehran and said that the monthly cost of Friday prayers is four hundred thousand tomans, and they currently have no source of income. They also helped to build a mosque. We were supposed to provide it from somewhere. I worked in the parliament until half past eight. I spoke on the phone with Mr. [Ayatollah] Khamenei and Mr. [Mirhossein] Mousavi about the defense of sensitive centers and also [appointing] the remaining two cabinet ministers. I came home in the evening.
