After breakfast, I reached my office at half past eight. Dr. Habibi, [first vice president], came for current affairs. Mr. Mohammadreza Beheshti, [son of Martyr Beheshti] came.
He negotiated and requested about the construction of the memorial for the martyrs of the 7th of Tir; I said that action should be taken according to the expectations of the families of other martyrs. They talked about his education and his brother's education.
They came from the Ministry of Information and the Revolutionary Prosecutor's Office. The freedom and trial of members of the freedom movement were discussed. They were supposed to be released gradually; I emphasized on not putting pressure on the people and tolerance towards the violators. Three people have been released so far.
Mr. [Sidkamal] Kharazi, [Permanent Representative of Iran to the United Nations] came and reported the actions in New York. Dr. [Hasan] Rouhani came in the evening. They talked about the program of the Supreme National Security Council.
The Supreme National Security Council had a meeting. Dr. Velayati reported on his trip to Iraq. The quality of the freedom of the rest of the captives and the itinerary of the pilgrims were negotiated. We decided to offer up to 20 thousand pilgrims per week. A delegation was scheduled to examine the condition of the prisoners who did not come over the weekend. The Ministry of Information says that we have about 5,000 names of captives that we have reasons for their captivity and they have not yet arrived.
Negotiations were held regarding the border Arabs of Khuzestan who went to Iraq at the beginning of the war and cooperated with Saddam. The Ministry of Intelligence considers their number to be 75,000, of which about 10,000 have signed up in "Lashkar al-Ahvaz" and have acted for the benefit of Iraq. It was decided that we will not accept them lightly and if they come, they will be arrested and tried, and if possible they will be sent to another place, other than Khuzestan. Mr. [Abdullah] Nouri, [the country's minister], requested that we provide spare parts for taxis at the government rate.
At night, we were with Ahmad Agha, the leader's guest. There was a negotiation about the issues of Iraq and the region and the freedom of [arrested members] of the freedom movement.
