Colonel Vahid [Dastjerdi], head of the Police (Shahrbani), came and gave a report on the activation of the police and CID (Agahi). He said the amount of bank robberies, etc., had decreased, and he complained that Mr. Beheshti had said the "policemen" (shahrbani-chi-ha) were not willing to fulfill their duties regarding the fight against rioters. I also confirmed this same point and said you must rid the police of this attitude. He was keen for the Committees (Komiteh-ha) to be removed from the police stations. I said this action is contingent upon the Police (Shahrbani) becoming active and reliable. He requested that I recommend to the Revolutionary Prosecutor's Office not to pressure police officers over pre-revolutionary offenses.

A discussion was held regarding ways of cooperating with Mr. Bani-Sadr. Before meeting with me, he had met with Mr. Bani-Sadr. He said that Mr. Bani-Sadr was gradually coming to his senses and preparing to cooperate with the government.
At night, Effat, the kids, and I were guests of Dr. Vahid [Dastjerdi]. The discussions revolved mostly around the policy of repelling moderate forces, and moderation was advised.
