Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – October 24, 1982

We had a public session. I entrusted the latter part of the session to [Mr. Mohammad] Yazdi and came to the office. At noon, I met with a number of representatives in my office regarding their affairs. Mr. [Hassan] Kafi, who had been the target of an attempted terrorist assassination some time ago and was seriously wounded, came and brought money to purchase an ambulance for the fronts and asked for assistance to continue his treatment. I officiated at the marriage ceremony of a Basij member. The commanders of the Gendarmerie and the political-ideological department came in the afternoon, and I spoke to them. They also gave a report on the work of the seminar they had held in Sistan.

Mr. [Abbas] Mozaffar came and brought the screenplay for the film The Jungle Movement for me to read and give my opinion. He also complained about some of the sincere forces being marginalized and about the large number of dissatisfied people.

We had a meeting of the party's Central Council. The duties were discussed; we determined the place of the Political Bureau. Some objected to the prime minister for not consulting the council in selecting the new ministers. The position and members of the provincial council were also discussed. Late at night, I went to the parliament. Mr. Khamenei spoke about the outcome of the negotiations with the mediators from the Islamic Conference regarding the war. It became clear that they had no new proposal, and consequently we also rejected it. In an interview, he described the mediators as being under the influence of America, which would presumably offend them.
