Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – May 4, 1983

After the prayer, I studied until nine-thirty in the morning. I read the reports. At nine-thirty, a group of new parliamentary employees came and complained about the stewards. Mr. Rouhani, Iran's ambassador to Lebanon, came; they have asked him to resign because he had entered into a temporary marriage with one of the female employees of the embassy, and it had led to a dispute, and apparently there had been a conspiracy against him. Then a group of administrative officials and revolutionary institutions from Chabahar came. They spoke about problems and shortages, especially the shortage of water and amenities, and it became clear that nothing proper had been done for that area. Then our ambassadors in India, Somalia, Mexico, Mauritania, Spain and Italy came and presented reports on their respective countries, explained the scope and relations, and consultations were held. Mr. [Mohammad Ali] Elahi, head of the Ideological-Political Organization of the Navy, came. He complained about the manner of Captain [Bahram] Afzali's arrest and the replacement of the commander without consultation with the Ideological-Political Organization, and was worried about the future.

At noon, after the prayer, Mr. [Gholamhossein] Nadi, representative of Najafabad, came and spoke about disorder on the fronts and improper actions by the Revolutionary Guards. He consulted about how to deal with the government. I told him not to deal with it in such a bitter and critical manner; he is dealing with it too harshly. Mr. [Ahmad] Salek, representative of Isfahan, came and spoke about the discovery of missing SAVAK documents in a warehouse belonging to an individual, and complained extensively about the friends of Mr. [Jalaleddin] Taheri [Friday Prayer Leader of Isfahan]. He consulted about going to the Ideological-Political Organization of the Navy. Mr. [Kazem] Norouzi, representative of Amol, came and complained that the Revolutionary Court and Mr. [Mousavi] Ardebili wanted to prosecute him because of his statements, and defended himself.

In the afternoon, we had a meeting of the presiding board. It lasted four hours. We approved giving three thousand meters of the Parliament's land to Shahid Motahari Higher School and took care of other matters.

At night, I gave an interview for Guards Day. I came home late at night. Imam today banned the publication of Ettela'at newspaper because it had printed material written by Martyr Motahari - which Imam had said should not be published –. I interceded, but it had no effect.
