After the prayer, I recited some of the Quran. In the past, since childhood, I always read the Quran in the mornings. A few years ago, when I began writing “The Key to the Quran” in prison, because I would immediately after the prayer begin studying and making notes from the Quran, I thought there was no need to read the Quran. After being released from prison, for a while I continued, according to my prison habit, to pray and... after the morning prayer, but gradually, because of my many engagements, these became less frequent. Recently I feel that I am benefiting less from the light of the Quran, and therefore I decided to revive the same habit from the past and every morning recite a few verses of the Quran in tartil. The president's remarks two or three days ago, when he said that he reads the Quran every morning, influenced this decision.
I went to the Majlis. I read the reports. Turkey's entry into Iraqi territory is among the important news. It seems to be either for suppressing the Kurds or preventing Iran or Syria from gaining control, through the Kurds, over northern Iraq, or for preserving Iraq's oil pipeline.
In the open session, the bill to nationalize garages in the areas where goods enter the country was passed - contrary to expectations - and the bill to prevent the subdivision or conversion of agricultural lands in Mazandaran and Gilan into gardens and houses was rejected. At noon, Mr. Hadi Khamenei came to my office and complained about the party and our lack of attention to him. The representative from Maku also came and brought a photo album showing the views of the cliffs and the danger of the mountains in [the city of] Maku [located in West Azerbaijan Province] to people's houses; he wanted help to relocate the people. I wrote to the housing minister. In the afternoon, Mr. [Ahmad] Tavakoli, the labor minister, came and gave an explanation of the progress of the draft labor law and spoke of the political confrontation by the opposing faction in the government. We had a meeting of the party's central council. It was the election of the executive board. The conservatives had more votes, and they intended to remove [Mir-Hossein Mousavi] the prime minister from the political bureau; I prevented it with some irritation. [Ayatollah] Mr. Khamenei reported that the army was ready for an operation and the Revolutionary Guards were not ready. It was decided that we should follow up to speed up the work. Late at night I came home.
