Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – May 25, 1993

After morning prayer and bathing, for the first time during the presidency, I walked in the office garden for half an hour to relieve fatigue due to staying at work for several days and nights and not going home or outside.

The managers of the Ministry of Mines and Metals came. Mr. [Hossein] Mahluji, [Minister of Mines and Metals] reported the successes, which is very good, and I encouraged them. Dr. [Reza] Malekzadeh, [Minister of Health, Treatment and Medical Education] and Dr. [Syed Morteza] Azarnoush, [Deputy Minister of Food and Medicine] came. They expressed concern about the lack of medicine in case of lack of speed in providing currency and administrative facilities; I promised to help.

[Mr. Bahauddin Yusuf Habibi], Minister of Industry and Technology of Indonesia came. He is a cool and interesting person. He explained about attention to Islam, humanity and technology in Indonesia and expressed his happiness about Iran's progress and future cooperation.

Mr. [Jalil] Basharti, [head of the affairs office] of deprived areas [presidential institution] came. The report of deprivation measures was given and referenced. A group of army commanders came. They explained about the border transactions with Iraq and how to use it for the proper presence of information inside Iraq and asked for the facilitation of sending oil to Afghanistan.

Mehdi and Fereshte came in the afternoon. We had lunch together. They said goodbye and left for Hajj. Efat called from London and asked for permission to possibly go to Mecca from there.

In the evening, the Supreme Administrative Council had a meeting. Expediting the issuance of other industrial and production licenses and the issuance of real estate documents was approved and the evaluation discussion of government employees began. I stayed the night in my office.
