Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – May 17, 1989

I woke up for morning prayer and did not sleep again. I did the backlog until half past seven. I stayed in the public meeting until half past nine. A group of teacher training students came from Mazandaran. I spoke for them.

Mr. [Mohammed Javad] Irvani [Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance] came. He told the results of his negotiations with the Soviet delegation and brought the cooperation plans presented by us and the Soviet Union. Some employees of Alborz pharmaceutical company came and brought money for the front. They complained to the management of the company that they do not pay attention to Islamic forces and Hezbollah.

In the afternoon, Mr. [Nasser Hirani] Nobri, our ambassador to the Soviet Union, came. My trip to the Soviet Union was negotiated. He believes that in the negotiations we should try to have the Russians cancel the treaty of 1921, which was the first one-sided revolution, and accept the commonality of the Caspian Sea instead of a border line in the sea, and there was a general discussion about the negotiations and the centers we visited in the Soviet Union.

At quarter past three in the afternoon, the Board of the Speaker of the Parliament had a meeting. The accompanying delegation's trip to the Soviet Union and issues of cooperation were discussed.

The general session of the Constitutional Review Council was held from four to seven in the afternoon. The focus of the judiciary was on the order. I also spoke in agreement; It didn't end. We decided that the discussions of the meetings will be broadcasted on the radio from now on. I worked in my office until 9 o'clock at night and came home.
