I was at home until two in the afternoon. My sister Fatemeh and a group of other relatives had come. In the afternoon we went to Sa'dabad and took a helicopter to visit areas of southern Tehran. I saw the large fruit and vegetable market under construction. The project consultant and Mr. Gholamhossein Karbaschi, the mayor of Tehran, gave a report. This market is being built on 270 hectares of land with 250,000 square meters of built area, with full services, cold storage, a bank, and so on. They have made the units large and well-equipped. Each commercial unit, with about 160 square meters of built area, has a small cold storage, a display area, and a warehouse. The units have good height. The first phase is supposed to be delivered this year. The contractors spoke of their problems in competing with foreign contractors.
By car we went to the site of Bahman Park and Cultural Center. They have turned the old Tehran slaughterhouse into a beautiful park; green space, art exhibitions, cinema and theater halls, numerous sports halls, a swimming pool, sauna, and jacuzzi have been created. Given the population density in southern Tehran and the lack of green space and recreational facilities, this is very valuable work. I thanked the mayor of Tehran and the relevant managers. By bringing historical and cultural artifacts that had been sitting idle in the storeroom of Vahdat Hall, an interesting museum has been formed.
Then by car we went to the site of the Saeedieh settlement, which the Foundation of the Oppressed and War Veterans is building on the Soleimanieh lands located in the southeast of Tehran; this settlement is being built in a village left over from Amirsolaimani, which was confiscated after the revolution. It is about three hundred hectares of land located within the boundaries of Tehran and has a water-rich qanat.
The Tehran Municipality has taken most of this land for creating Azadegan Park and planting trees for Tehran's green belt and other urban facilities, and in return has given the Foundation of the Oppressed and War Veterans permission to build in parts of it. Mr. Seyyed Mohammad Alizadeh gave explanations. They presented the ownership documents of the settlement. It is very interesting. About five thousand residential units with green space, a mosque, a school, a store, a health center, a kindergarten, and a cinema in four-story and eight-story buildings and apartments of 70 to 140 square meters, with high-quality materials and very good plans, have been built.
I visited one residential unit; everything for a good life is provided in a 90-square-meter space. I encouraged them. It was decided that the Tehran Municipality buy a number of the units to reform the city's structure; in such a way that the residents of a worn-out area of southern Tehran are brought here, and then their neighborhood is renovated in the same way, and this work continues in the same way in all worn-out areas of Tehran.
By car we went to Azadegan Park next to Saeedieh, in the same Soleimanieh lands. In an old building of the park that is the work center, they explained the park's plan. Around there they have collected a collection of flower and ornamental tree seeds, and they produce saplings of trees and flowers for planting around the city of Tehran. The lady who was the expert and manager of the production and propagation of flower plants for Tehran said that this year she had produced 4.5 million branches of evening primrose plants. Then we visited the centers for planting and harvesting tree saplings and flowers; it is interesting.
We visited the belt plantings on the slopes of Bibi Shahrbanoo heights and the Khorasan road, which have been carried out to curb the city's expansion and improve the environment; it is extremely interesting and necessary. Carrying out these projects imposes heavy costs on the Tehran Municipality.
We flew by helicopter toward Sa'dabad Palace. The weather was rainy; they could not land at Sa'dabad, so we landed at Azadi Stadium and by car reached home near iftar time.
At night Mr. Abdollah Nouri, the Minister of the Interior, came and gave a report on the disqualification of a number of parliamentary candidates in the executive boards; it will certainly be objected to and will create problems for the Ministry of the Interior. Among them are 23 current members of parliament, including Seyyed Hadi Khamenei, Sadegh Khalkhali, and others; he sought a solution. It seemed there was no way but to resort to the Guardian Council, which is unlikely to help, because it is precisely in line with their wishes, and fundamentally this situation arose from the Guardian Council's pressure regarding the composition of the executive board members.
