Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – June 9, 1983

After the prayer, I read the reports and wrote the Arabic sermon [Persian text]. In the open session, the bill on interest-free banking operations was under discussion; we made good progress. At noon, [Mr. Mostafa Kiaei], the representative from Tuyserkan, brought 480,000 tomans in cash and some gold and jewelry for the fronts; there are very many such contributions. Mr. [Abbas] Mozaffar, representative of [Bojnord], came and expressed his concerns about the state budget and consulted me about taking a position. The Friday and congregational prayer leaders of Khorasan Province came; there were very many of them. Their representative spoke, and I also gave a detailed speech. The members of the Labor Commission came and gave a report on the major factories in Isfahan and the problems of the workers and management; they had reform proposals that we agreed to pursue together; including the striking workers of the Isfahan Steel Mill, who for some time have wanted to make it a cooperative and have gone on strike, and the problems of Polyacryl and Mobarakeh Steel.

In the afternoon, families whose relatives are being held captive by the counterrevolutionaries in Kurdistan came. I spoke to them and consoled them.

Major Torabi [from the Army Advisory Office] came and brought a report from the south and Bandar Mahshahr, and a plan for bringing ships into the port and countering Iraqi missiles. Then the senior selection committees came and gave a report on the new situation following the Imam's eight-point decree, the dissolution of the former selection committees, and their new practical program. I also spoke about their work and advised them to safeguard people's dignity and to show leniency - in cases where leniency is warranted.

I went to Qasr-e Firuzeh Garrison, where the seminar of the IRGC commanders was being held; I spoke to them about the war. At night I came home; I was very tired. Mostly, I watched the television programs and rested.
