Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – June 4, 1986

I reached the parliament at half past seven in the morning. I told Dr. Velayati to send a delegation to Lebanon and show some kindness to the Palestinian embassy in Tehran. Before the order, I talked about Quds Day and June 15.

In the public meeting, the very sensitive and controversial plan to amend the law of the Ministry of Health and Medical Education was discussed. Most of the academicians are against the transfer of medical schools from the Ministry of Science, and the newspapers have been arguing in favor of them in the past months, and the discussion in the parliament is very serious.

I stayed for the main part of the meeting so that there would be no convulsions in the discussions, but I left at the end of the meeting. For me, the right is not very clear. Finally, the parliament voted in favor of health and treatment, and the attempts were ineffective.

Mr. [Bijan Namdar] Zanganeh [Minister of Construction Jihad] and [Abdullah] Nouri [Imam's Representative in Construction Jihad] came. They were worried that they would go out of the villages as a means of jihad. We agreed to use their facilities with their own agreement. Mr. Hadi came in the afternoon. We discussed Mr. [Abdullah] Nouri's proposal regarding his candidacy for [membership in] the lawyers of the Guardian Council.

Latif Safari came. He said something about irregular wars. Mr. [Akbar] Turkan came and consulted about airplane and helicopter manufacturing and cannon manufacturing industries. Action was taken. Mr. [Ali Mohammad] Basharti [Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs] came. The composition of the delegation to Lebanon was discussed.

We were the guests of the Prime Minister for Iftar. Mr. [Ahmed] Janati [head of the Islamic Propaganda Organization] came and announced the dissolution of half of the offices of the Islamic Propaganda Organization. War and economic matters were discussed.
