Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – June 28, 1983

I woke up at seven thirty in the morning. I attended the public session; before the agenda, I spoke about the martyrs of the seventh of Tir. I entrusted the end of the session to Mr. Yazdi and came to my office to take care of some work. Near noon, I went to sleep to make up for the lack of sleep during the night and woke up at three thirty. I performed the noon and afternoon prayers. In the afternoon, Mr. Mohsen Rezaei [commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps] came. He gave a report on the fronts, the interrogation of Tudeh members, and infiltration of the Mojahedin. He proposed replacing the IRGC commander, which I opposed, and reassured him on this matter. I said that Imam was also not in favor of replacing the IRGC commander; he was pleased. He is under pressure because of disagreements within the command and with Mr. Faker [Imam's representative in the IRGC]. He complained about Ayatollah Montazeri's treatment of him.

In front of the southern entrance of the parliament, we held a ceremony for the martyrs of the seventh of Tir. A good crowd had come. Mr. [Ali Asghar] Baghani, representative of Sabzevar - who is one of those wounded in the bombing of the [Islamic Republic] Party office - gave a speech. Then I spoke about martyrdom. I returned to my office again and took care of the work. For the evening meal, the families of the martyrs of the seventh of Tir and a group of the country's figures were guests of the parliament. I went to see the guests. We performed the evening prayer led by Mr. Mousavi Ardabili. After the evening meal, [Ayatollah] Khamenei spoke to those present. Effat and the Imam's family and his other friends had also come. At night, we returned home.
