Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – June 17, 1987

I read the reports before going to the public meeting. I stayed at the public meeting until ten in the morning. I met Mr. Sayad Shirazi in my office before noon. He brought a report from the front line and a theory for the helicopters needed to supply the forces inside Iraq. Mr. Sanjaghi also came. He brought the same themes as a message from Mr. [Mohsen] Rezaei.

Mr. Nouri [Shahrudi] came. He talked about the internal situation of Kuwait and the need to support the Muslims in Kuwait and explained the Mecca propaganda program. Mr. Raiszadeh, Deputy Public Relations [Islamic Shura Council], came and analyzed the current situation and its consequences based on my statements on the day of the Imam's pilgrimage, regarding the intervention of the Imam to solve legislative problems and offered suggestions to deal with conspiracies and problems. Mr. Mohsen Rezaei informed that the Fatah 6 operation was carried out in "Morg Sur" area in the north of Erbil and was successful. We decided to announce it tomorrow. In the evening, the board of the parliament had a meeting.

At night, the military leaders were my guests in my office. The Prime Minister has returned from Türkiye and is satisfied with the trip, and the Atatürk issue has highlighted the political effects of the trip. He did not agree to go to Atatürk's tomb and the opponents of the government made noise. The cancellation of the trip to Syria is still unclear. We have to wait to find out the real reason.

Dr. [Alireza] Marandi [Minister of Health, Treatment and Medical Education] came. He complained about handing over a hospital to Shahid Foundation. We decided to give another hospital that is not educational. Dr. Velayati came. He brought up the results of the trip to China and the issue of the dark relations with England.
